What Is So Special About Florida Elections?

The speed and security of Florida elections rely on common-sense policies that can be easily replicated

In the election earlier this month, there were many states that had seemingly interminable delays in counting the votes. During the endless wait to see who would control Congress in the next term, Florida became something of a beacon for the promise that votes could be counted quickly and efficiently without complaint from voters on either side of the aisle.

I remember the awful vote counting disaster of 2000 in Florida and I was curious how Florida turned its voting system around to become such a success story. To answer this question, I talked to Genya Coulter who has worked in Florida elections for years training and aiding election workers.

There were a number of important concepts around sound and secure voting policies that came out of our conversation, which I’ll try to summarize here.
